One of the effects of gaslighting is the loss of trust. 
The loss of trust in yourself.

Just imagine someone telling you that whatever you feel or see is not that, but something else (something that makes sense to the abuser at that point in time).

When you are under this toxic influence it's only normal to loose self-trust because your perceptions of events and even your senses are always questioned. So are your emotions.

Now, loosing trust in your emotions is deeply damaging. It's like loosing your natural compass. From then on you start to loose yourself.
